Many students are still confused about ugc lectureship eligibility. Following is one example of this.

Dear Sir,
What is the Eligibility for Lectureship(LS) of Net Exams of UGC, one is 55% in Post Graduation and No upper age limit is mentioned at the UGC site. Besides is any other qualification or work experience required?
I did my graduation in B Com(Hons) in 1992 with 54% and thereafter pursued CA, which I could not complete till date. Currently I am working as a Software consultant, but would like to shift to Teaching and have come to know that NET of UGC is a prerequisite. One thing is sure that i have to complete M.Com. ( I will prefer it from DU-Correspondence) as u have mentioned, that it makes no difference. Secondly thereafter will I be eligible to take NET exam for LS or I need to first clear Junior Research Fellow(JRF) for which the age limit is 28 years???

Dear Arvind, Only 55% in your post graduation is needed for doing UGC NET examination. To clear UGC Net is the current ugc lectureship eligibility. There is no need of any experience or other qualification. There is also no need to clear first junior research fellow. When you will apply for UGC NET examination, you see two option in its form, if your age is more than 28 years, you have to select only lectureship in UGC NET examination form. Still there is no age limit for UGC NET (LS).

"i) Qualifying at the National test conducted for the purpose by UGC or any other agency approved by UGC.
ii) Master’s degree with at least 55 % marks or its equivalent grade.The qualifications should not be relaxed even for candidates possessing M.Phil/Ph.D. at the time of recruitment." The Mehrotra Committee also found that the stipulation of M.Phil/Ph.D. as an essential qualification for Lecturers had neither been followed faithfully nor did it necessarily contribute to the raising of teaching and research standards.
