Main aim of merit rating is the evaluation of the performance of employees. Employer can give reward on the basis of merit of employees. It is also helpful to compare the quality of different employees.
In merit rating, we evaluate the following personal abilities.
1. Knowledge and work experience.
2. Interest in the work
3. Quality which he produced.
4. Punctuality
5. Trust and Faith
6. Confidence
7. Leadership quality
8. Discipline and co-operation
9. Flexibility according to situation and time.

We write marks of above qualities. Now, employee does his duty. During the time of duty, we measure his obtained marks in it. For example, yesterday, I gave Rs. 160 to my employee to recharge my mobile. He did not recharge my mobile but he had used for other purpose. When I asked about mobile recharge, he told me that he used for other purpose and next day. He will recharge my mobile with Rs. 160. It was the breach of my trust. I gave zero marks in trust and faith because when an employee can use Rs. 160 of your money for their personal use without any permission, how can I faith on him by giving him big amount? So, his rank has been declined on the basis of merit rating. If you are employee, you also never break the trust of your employer.
